BLSA Canada 2014 Magazine – Call for Submissions

By admin Uncategorized No Comments on BLSA Canada 2014 Magazine – Call for Submissions

The Black Law Students’ Association of Canada (BLSA Canada) invites you to submit a piece of your original/unpublished work for the annual magazine. Each year, the magazine is available in hard copy at the national conference and on the BLSA Canada website. This is an excellent opportunity for students, faculty and BLSA alumni to have their work featured in a nationally recognized publication.

This year’s theme is youth empowerment and we are seeking articles on a broad range of topics. Those interested in submitting work might consider, among many other subjects, some of the following ideas:

  • Mentorship projects
  • Personal law school experiences/professional reflections
  • Race relations and the legal system/cultural competency
  • Access to justice
  • The articling “crisis”
  • Opinion piece on a relevant issue in the news
  • Commentary on current cases, public policy or legislative issues
  • Work/life balance
  • Reflections from study abroad
  • Coping with prejudice in law school or the workplace
  • The (French-English) language gap
  • Reflections/advice about the job hunt . . .

We are also looking for artistic submissions related to our theme, such as photography, and poetry. Digital images of artwork such as painting and sketches are also welcome.

BLSA Canada is a bilingual organization, so please feel free to submit your work in French or English. Articles should be in a Word document that is no more than 500 words long. When you send your submission, please provide a short bio about yourself and a brief synopsis or explanation of your work.

The deadline for the 2014 magazine submissions is November 17. All submissions must be submitted electronically to admin@blsacanada.com. Should your work be selected for publication, we will send you a release agreement that you will be required to complete and return.

You can check out previous editions of the magazine here. If you have any questions, please contact Natalia Peart at admin@blsacanada.com.

Thank you for your interest and we look forward to reviewing your submission!
