Sponsor a Scholarship

The ever-increasing price of tuition is prohibitive for many students who are considering law school. Unfortunately, the financial cost of a legal education is an insurmountable obstacle for many prospective students. Each year, the BLSAC assists students in need through the BLSACares scholarship program. Currently, we only have the funds to award one scholarship per year.  If you are interested in sponsoring a student, establishing a new annual scholarship, or contributing to our existing scholarship fund, please click the button below and submit the attached form.

The Julius Alexander Isaac Diversity Moot

Each year, BLSA Canada holds the Julius Alexander Isaac Diversity Moot. The Moot, which is open to all students, is designed to provide an opportunity for prospective litigators to be exposed to often-overlooked areas of law in which issues of equity and diversity arise. Due to the national character of BLSA Canada, many participating students travel from their respective schools and stay in the host city for the duration of the Moot. BLSA Canada is seeking donations to allow us to subsidize the cost of accommodations for participating students in order to allow wider participation. We are also seeking practicing lawyers who are willing to donate their expertise to assisting the Moot teams.  If you are interested in sponsoring a particular student, assisting a team, or in contributing to our pool of resources, please click the link below.

The National Conference

As the crown jewel event of the year, our National Conference serves as a forum for underrepresented students to learn more about the legal profession from prominent lawyers, judges and politicians. Our conference was created as, and continues to be, a response to the troubling level of black representation in the legal profession. Our relatively sparse numbers in the profession is a reflection of our numbers in law schools across the country. Despite the major improvements that have taken place over the last few decades, the Black community continues to face systemic barriers with respect to accessing a legal education, as well as the legal profession more generally.

BLSACanada is proud to have created a space in which students can break their relative isolation, solicit and share insight on the legal profession, and gain encouragement from members of the practicing bar as they pursue their legal study and plan their legal career.
