George Clements received a Bachelor of Business Administration with a major in finance from the University of New Brunswick, completing his last year of undergrad while in his first year of law school. George has worked as a bank teller and an insurance claims analyst in New Brunswick before starting law school. George is currently in the third year of a four year JD/MBA program at Dalhousie University. Previously, George was the VP finance for the Dalhousie Black Law Students’ Association and the Dalhousie branch of Lawyers Without Borders. This year, George helped both societies break funding records. George is also an active contributor to the faculty, sitting on the EDI Committee and is an inaugural member of the graduate student advisory council. 

 

Growing up George spent time in foster care and group homes which he thinks imbued him with an ‘outside the box’ way of thinking and the tenacity necessary to move BLSA Canada forward and leave a lasting impact. George’s areas of legal interest include: business law, tax, securities law, mergers and acquisitions and private equity. George is currently on an 8-month work term at Deloitte LLP working in the Tax & Legal division where he is garnering beneficial hands on experience that he hopes will be particularly transferable to the practice of law.

George Clements a obtenu un baccalauréat en administration des affaires avec une spécialisation en finances de l’Université du Nouveau-Brunswick. Il a terminé sa dernière année d’études de premier cycle de manière combinée avec sa première année en faculté de droit. George a travaillé comme caissier de banque et comme analyste des réclamations d’assurance au Nouveau-Brunswick avant de commencer ses études en droit. George est actuellement en troisième année du programme combiné JD/MBA de quatre ans à L’Université Dalhousie. Auparavant, George était le vice-président des finances du Dalhousie Black Law Students' Association et de la section du Dalhousie branch of Lawyers Without Borders. Cette année, George a aidé les deux associations à battre des records de financement. George est également un collaborateur actif de la faculté, il siège au comité de l’EDI et est un membre inaugural du conseil consultatif des étudiant.e.s diplômé.e.s. 

 

En grandissant, George a passé du temps dans des foyers d’accueil et des foyers de groupe, ce qui, selon lui, lui a donné une façon de penser « hors des sentiers battus » et la ténacité nécessaire pour faire avancer l’AÉND du Canada et laisser un impact durable. Les domaines d’intérêt juridique de George sont : le droit des affaires, le droit fiscal, le droit des valeurs mobilières, les fusions et acquisitions et le capital-investissement. George effectue actuellement un stage de huit mois chez Deloitte LLP, au sein de la division juridique et fiscale, où il acquiert une expérience pratique qu’il espère pouvoir transférer dans sa pratique du droit.
