Tom Ndekezi (he/him) is a Juris Doctor student at the University of Victoria (UVic) Faculty of Law. He previously completed an undergraduate degree at the University of Alberta with a major in Biological Sciences and a minor in English, graduating with distinction. Tom pursued several self-directed projects throughout his undergraduate degree and was recognized for academic and research excellence. He was also actively involved in student journalism, producing podcast and radio content for the campus radio station and serving as Arts and Culture Editor for the student-run campus magazine. Tom continues to write and produce for publications in and around Edmonton and Victoria. 

 

At law school, Tom has been passionate about equity and racial justice issues. In his roles on the UVic BLSA executive, he has helped implement internal chapter policies, host events and lobby the Faculty of Law to take steps to increase Black student enrolment. He also represented UVic at the 2023 Isaac Moot and was recognized with the Top Oralist award, given to the student with the highest average oral argument score. Tom has also been involved with Pro Bono Students Canada and served on the editorial board of Appeal, UVic’s student-run law journal. He will be articling at a firm in Edmonton, Alberta following graduation. 

 

Outside of school and work, Tom can be found obsessing over hip-hop, watching soccer, cooking Crohn’s-friendly foods and coming to grips with being left-handed in a right-handed world.

Tom Ndekezi (il) est étudiant en Juris Doctor à la Faculté de droit de l'Université de Victoria (UVic). Il a précédemment obtenu un diplôme de premier cycle à l'Université de l'Alberta, avec une spécialisation en sciences biologiques et une mineure en anglais, et a obtenu son diplôme avec distinction. Tom a mené plusieurs projets autonomes tout au long de sa licence et a été reconnu pour l'excellence de ses études et de ses recherches. Il a également participé activement au journalisme étudiant, en produisant des podcasts et du contenu radio pour la station de radio du campus et en occupant le poste de rédacteur en chef des arts et de la culture pour le magazine du campus géré par les étudiants. Tom continue d'écrire et de produire pour des publications à Edmonton et Victoria et dans les environs. 

 

À la faculté de droit, Tom s'est passionné pour les questions d'équité et de justice raciale. Dans le cadre de ses fonctions au sein de l'exécutif de l'UVic l’AÉND, il a contribué à la mise en œuvre des politiques internes du chapitre, à l'organisation d'événements et au lobbying auprès de la Faculté de droit pour qu'elle prenne des mesures visant à augmenter le nombre d'étudiants noirs inscrits. Il a également représenté l'UVic au 2023 Isaac Moot et a reçu le prix Top Oralist, décerné à l'étudiant ayant obtenu la meilleure note moyenne pour ses plaidoiries. Tom a également participé à Pro Bono Students Canada et a fait partie du comité de rédaction d'Appeal, la revue de droit gérée par les étudiants de l'UVic. Après avoir obtenu son diplôme, il effectuera un stage dans un cabinet d'Edmonton, en Alberta. 

 

En dehors de l'école et du travail, on peut trouver Tom obsédé par le hip-hop, regardant le football, cuisinant des aliments adaptés à la maladie de Crohn et s'accommodant du fait d'être gaucher dans un monde de droitiers.
